Viking Era Bronze Amulet with Two Duck Feet -Extremely Rare Artefact!
Material: Bronze/copper alloy
Dimensions: 48 x 25 mm
Date: 10th – 11th century AD
Condition: Complete and intact with suspension mount and both feet preserved. Corrosion and patina consistent with age.
A rare and intriguing Viking Age bronze amulet featuring two stylised duck (or waterfowl) feet, dating to approximately the 10th–11th century AD.
This unusual pendant consists of a horizontal suspension bar with ribbed decoration, from which hang two articulated duck feet attached via loops. The feet are rendered in a simplified yet expressive form, characteristic of Viking-period symbolic amulets.
Animal-themed pendants held protective and symbolic significance in Norse culture. Waterfowl, in particular, are often associated with movement between worlds (land, water, and air), possibly linking the object to spiritual beliefs or shamanistic practices.
The piece displays a well-developed green patina consistent with age, with visible wear and minor losses that attest to its authenticity and long burial.
